Travel with the Chicks (virtually, that is)!

So…we have both been accepted to participate in the Apple Distinguished Educator Global Institute in Cork, Ireland this summer, and we’re crazy excited about going! We know this will be an amazing event where we will collaborate with “old” friends and make many new friends amongst the amazing instructional leaders that will be attending from all over the world.

If you’ve been with us for any amount of time, you’ve listened to us go on about the previous Institutes we’ve attended, and you know how much we’ve learned. Each experience not only packs our heads with new learning, but inspires us to want to do more, share more, and be more. With that learning we’ve shared new links and ideas in our podcast. You can count on learning with us at this Institute as well. We’re actually hoping to time it so our 100th episode is recorded in Ireland! So you’ll be celebrating that milestone with us, as well.

Unfortunately, the tickets to Cork, Ireland are pretty expensive. Each ticket was close to $1,400. If you listen to our podcast, we’re all about the free. Well, that’s because we’re pretty broke. :)

Our podcast and web site have always been a labor of love. We’ve received no money for our posts and no revenue from ads. All production costs and hosting (and coffee) have been completely out of pocket.

(yeah, we know you hear it coming…) We have cap in hand. “Buddy, can you spare a dime?” We’re going to have a local bake sale (or three) and do things like cover teachers’ duties and see what else we can come up with. We’re trying to do everything we can to offset the cost of these tickets. We have also set up a ChipIn (see sidebar) where you can donate a buck or two or ten or twenty if you want to help us out. No pressure, though.

We haven’t designed them yet, but we plan on creating a special Tech Chicks t-shirt where we’ll place the names of anyone who has donated on the back. We’re thinking we might wordle the names, so the more you donate, the bigger your name could be! So far we have “Mom and Dad” :) So wouldn’t you like to come to Ireland with us? If you donate, you can send us your photo and we’ll take your pictures with us at any fun stops we make. You can be our Flat Stanley! If you have other ideas that we can try, please share!
